Tony Brower

In March, 2010, Thompson Rivers University will be hosting the Tony Brower Innovation Exposition. The exposition is inspired by the late Tony Brower, a professor at TRU, who believed not only in the power of innovation, but also the learning and growth that competition outside the classroom can bring to students. Tony Brower began his time at TRU in August 2001, as a full time instructor in Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management, with an industry background in retail merchandising. His belief in learning beyond the classroom instigated his contributions to the university through single-handedly organizing innovative field trips for the students to Vancouver and Seattle. He also believed in taking students out of the classroom and into local business in the Kamloops area, so that students could gain hands on experience of the realities of day to day operations. Furthermore, Tony pioneered entry into student business competitions such as the Royal Roads University International Undergraduate Case Competition, sparking the commitment that TRU now holds with regards to student competition. Tony spent many volunteer hours organizing, coaching and supervising the teams he lead to competitions, with not only winning as a goal, but as well the power of experience. The Tony Brower Innovation Exposition hopes to embody these goals for all involved, providing students with a new and creative way to learn and compete.
